Plantar Fasciitis – How can Osteopathy Help

Are you finding it painful to walk? Especially in the morning? If the answer is yes then you may be suffering with Plantar Fasciitis.

What are the causes?

Plantar fasciitis is common particularly when the nicer weather comes and we get out the flip flops!

As well as wearing shoes with poor cushioning and support it can also be caused by:

  • Exercising on hard surfaces.
  • Starting a new form of exercise
  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Have a tight Achilles’ tendon, flat feet or high arch.

What are the symptoms?

  • Stabbing pain and stiffness which are worse when you start walking after sleeping or resting.
  • Pain feels better during exercise but returns after resting.
  • Difficulty raising your toes off the floor.

We can check how your whole body moves, use gentle massage and manipulation to increase mobility of joints and show you specific stretches that will help. For example try putting a rolled up towel under your toes and while seated try to keep the ball of your foot on the floor as you raise your heel and hold for a stretch.

If you are suffering then book in with one of our Osteopaths or our musculoskeletal therapist to help ease your pain.
