Our top tips to improve your posture

Did you know that poor posture can cause poor circulation, aches and pains in your muscles and joints, pain in your back, neck and shoulders as well as causing general stiffness?

These are the most common factors that can contribute to bad posture:

1. Slouching in a chair

2. Leaning on one leg

3. Poking out your chin

4. Hunched back

5. Not having a good working environment ie a good supportive chair.

But there are simple things you can do to help improve your posture. Here are our top tips:

  • Try and sit up straight -if at work sit with your feet flat on the floor and get a good supportive chair.
  • De -stress – when you are stressed you tend to hunch your shoulders which puts tension in your muscles. So try and relieve your stress where possible.
  • Stretch – just a few minutes each day will greatly improve your posture. We can help you with exercises.
  • Take time to move- if you find you have a sedentary lifestyle try and get into the habit of standing up, walk around or stretch fit a few minutes every few hours.
  • Strengthen your spine- get out and about a simple walk is a good way to keep moving or any other weight bearing exercise.
  • Strengthen your core – activities such as yoga or Pilates are an excellent way to strengthen the core and help improve your flexibility and posture.
